Srinagar: Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik on Saturday held a peaceful sit-in protest at press enclave in Srinagar against the plight of prisoners languishing in different jails in India.
Delegations from both Hurriyat (G) and Hurriyat (M) along with Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Mohammad Yasin Malik at press enclave, carried placards and banners against the abuse of prisoners.
The JRL while addressing the gathering on the occasion expressed serious concern over the plight of the prisoners lodged in different jails. The JRL said prisoners are suffering immense problems including mental and physical torture.
JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik addressing a gathering said it was ironical to see Kashmiri prisoners lodged in Central Jail Srinagar shifted to various prisons outside the Valley and termed the move as highly autocratic and condemnable by all means. The Leadership said that the move to shift Kashmiri prisoners is a political vendetta aimed at adding more to the worries of the family members of inmates.
Yasin Malik also condemned the use of force at Jamia Masjid Srinagar on Friday. The clashes between the protesters and police after Friday congregational prayers at historic Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, left over thirty youth injured.
