Home Minister’s visit part of a bigger exercise which started with Ramzan ceasefire: Akhtar

Srinagar: The visit of Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh is not just a usual visit but part of a ‘bigger exercise which started with the announcement of the Ramzan ceasefire announced by the Modi government.

Government spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said despite being attacked forces have shown restraint. He added that the government has extended an offer to the Joint Resistance Leadership and it is from them to respond positively.

“The visit of Home Minister Rajnath Singh is surely a part of a bigger exercise the Modi government has started with the announcement of unilateral ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir. The government forces have been showing patience despite attacks on them with grenades and bullets from the other side. Home Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president Amit Shah and BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav have in ambiguous terms extended the offer of dialogue to Joint Resistance Leadership and it is for them to respond positively to the offer of dialogue extended to it by New Delhi.”

Singh, sources said, is also likely to take stock of the internal and external security arrangements vis-à-vis the suspension of operations against militants in Kashmir valley and the broader understanding reached between DGMOs of India and Pakistan over ceasefire on borders.

“The Home Minister would most probably take a call on extension of ceasefire after assessing the security situation in the state, sources added.” The Home Minister is also likely to discuss security arrangements for upcoming Amarnath Yatra with the Chief Minister, top ministers of the Mehbooba government and top officials of police, paramilitaries and Army.
