Shutdown continues in Trehgam over the killing of youth in army firing

Srinagar: Shutdown continues in Trehgam on Saturday over the killing of youth in army firing on Wednesday evening.

Shops and business centres remained shut on Saturday while public transport remained off the roads. However, no deployments or restrictions were placed in the area.

District Headquarters reported that Kupwara witnessed normalcy for a day.

A local youth, Khalid Gaffar Malik, was killed on Wednesday evening when army opened fire on protesters in Trehgam. Shot in throat, Malik was shifted to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday ordered magisterial probe into the killing. Earlier, police had registered FIR No. 46/ 2018 against the army under sections 147, 148, 323, 306, 307, RPC at police station Trehgam in the case.

Additional District Commissioner (ADM), Handwara, Muzaffar Hussain has been appointed as the inquiry officer and given the task to complete the probe within a month.
