Srinagar: On Monday, Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan-administered-Kashmir (Pak) left for crossing over to another side of the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, official sources stated.
Sources also stated the bus left Bemina, Srinagar with 6 passengers, including five Pakistan administered Kashmir residents returning home after completing stay here with their relatives for Kaman post the last Indian post on this side of LOC.
Since then, the bus has since reached Trade Facilitation Centre (TFC), Salamabad, Uri where more passengers will board it before leaving for Aman Post, the last Indian military post on this side of the LoC in Uri.
They added that the exact number of passengers travelling to Pak will be known only in the afternoon.The number of returnees and PaK guests will also be known in the evening.
The bus service is part of a Confidence Building Measure (CBM)between India and Pakistan after 1999 Kargil War. The bus service stayed stable despite tensions across LoC due to ceasefire violation and 2016 summer uprising. It started on April 7, 2005, extending help to thousands of families for meeting each other after India and Pakistan agreed to allow travel of state subjects from both sides on travel permits.
After their names are cleared by the intelligence agencies from India and Pakistan, the travel permit is issued to the state subject from both sides of the LoC. Only state subjects are allowed to avail the facility.
