India High Commissioner meets Imran Khan, gifts bat signed by entire Indian cricket team

Khan expressed grave concern over the human rights violations in Kashmir.

Ajay Bisaria, High Commissioner of India on Friday met Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairperson and PM-in-waiting Imran Khan in his Banigala residence in a step to ensure amicable relations between the two countries. Bisaria gifted Khan a cricket bat autographed by the entire Indian cricket team and congratulated him on his electoral victory.

The party said that Khan is scheduled to take oath on August 18. The meeting was attended by senior PTI leadership, including Shireen Mazari, Fawad Chaudhry, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Shahzad Waseem and Naeemul Haque. Bisaria was accompanied by Indian Deputy High Commissioner to Islamabad, J P Singh who also attended the meeting.

A wide range of issues which focused on future prospects of the budding relationship were discussed. The High Commissioner shared concerns over terrorism and cross-border infiltration. The meeting took place for about half an hour.

PTI leader Shireen Mazari tweeted about the meeting, saying that Khan urged for a resolution on Kashmir and conveyed hopes that the SAARC summit would be organized in Islamabad.

She also said that Khan “discussed the need to restart dialogue between Pakistan and India on all outstanding issues including Kashmir”. He also expressed grave concern over human rights violations in Kashmir, Mazari said.

Earlier, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi spoke to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, and congratulated him on his victory in the recent elections. He expressed hope that democracy would take deeper roots following the victory.

A statement from his office said he also reiterated his vision of peace and development in the entire neighbourhood.
