Srinagar: As the security arrangements have been heightened across the state ahead of the August 15 celebrations on Wednesday, the state police on Monday said that it will ensure peaceful and fearless celebrations of the day in Jammu and Kashmir.
Director General of Police (DGP), Dr Shesh Pal Vaid on the sidelines of a rehearsal function in Srinagar said that adequate security arrangements were made ahead of the celebrations.
“Adequate security arrangements were made for the Independence day celebrations here. Like you saw in Batamaloo yesterday, information was received about the presence of militants there but the militants who got injured during the gunfight fled from the spot due to the congested area,” he said, adding that “we wanted to avoid any collateral damage in the area.”
He further said that adequate security arrangements have been made by the police and security forces. “We will ensure that people will celebrate Independence day peacefully and without any fear,” he added.
Asked about Tosamaidan explosion that led to the killing of a youth and injures to four others, DGP said that “Last time the Army cleared the Tosamaidan land, but may be some shell could have been there and we will look into the matter.”
