More than 40 injured in clashes in Kulgam after killing of Hizb commander Kachroo

Following the killing of top Hizb commander Altaf Kachroo over 40 people have been injured in clashes with armed forces in Kulgam on Wednesday.

Kachroo was killed along with an associate with the forces in Khanabal area of adjoining Anantnag district. Reports said that massive clashes erupted in Khudwani after the news of Kachroo’s death reached there.

They said that the forces fired tear gas and pellets to chase away the protesters who were pelting them with stones. A health official at sub-district hospital Qaimoh confirmed to the Greater Kashmir that 45 injured were brought to the facility for treatment.

He said that six injured hit by pellets in the eye were referred to district hospital Anantnag for specialized treatment. Meanwhile, over a dozen militants appeared in the funeral of Kachroo at his native Mishipora village and offered a gun-salute.

Earlier, two militants, including top Hizb commander Altaf Ahmad Dar alias Kachroo of Hawoora, were killed in a gunfight with the forces today, police said.

Jammu and Kashmir Police also said that one of the militants killed in Anantnag today had escaped from an earlier gunfight in Batmaloo area of Srinagar earlier this month.
