Bandipora gunfight: Two more families come forward to claim slain militants as kin

Srinagar: Two more families hailing from Shopian and Ganderbal claimed two of the slain militants from the Bandipora gunfight as their own kin on Tuesday.

A family from Kangan area of Ganderbal district in central Kashmir claimed that one of the militants was their kin, Parvez Ahmed Tedwa alias Abu Mawiya.

“We have approached the police that one of the slain militants in Bandipora identified as Parvez Ahmed Tedwa son of Ghulam Nabi Tedwa a resident of Hayan palpora is our kin,” Mohammad Rafiq Tedwa, brother of the slain militant was quoted by Greater Kashmir.

SSP Ganderbal Mohammad Khalil Poswal was quoted by GK that a family from Hayan Palpora approached them with the claim that one of the militants killed in Bandipora gunfight was their kin.

“We have asked them to approach Bandipora police as this case pertains to them” SSP said.

Earlier, a family in south Kashmir claimed one of the five militants killed in the Bandipora gunfight was their son, which led to protests, Kashmir Reader reported.

The militant, identified as Bilal Ahmad alias Abu Haider was claimed by the family from Kulgam. A group of people assembled in Gulshan Chowk upon hearing the news and staged a protest against ‘the alleged dubbing of a local militant as foreigner’, KR reported.
