SPO who decamped with eight arms reportedly joins Hizb-ul-Mujahideen

A picture of the seven rifles has also gone viral on social media.

Srinagar: Adil Bashir, the Special Police Officer who had decamped with with seven rifles and a pistol from the residence of a PDP MLA, Aijaz Ahmad Mir, in Srinagar has reportedly joined militant outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen.

Reports came in after pictures of the officer posing with a gun along with other members of the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, including top commander Zeenat-ul-Islam went viral on social networking and messaging websites.

A photograph in which Adil is seen wielding a gun also has a Hizb ul Mujahideen tag written in Urdu.

Earlier  n Friday night, police said that Bashir has fled with seven rifles and a licensed pistol of the legislator Aijaz Ahmad Mir from his residence at Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar.

A picture of the seven rifles has also gone viral on social media.

Meanwhile, police last evening said as quoted by Greater Kashmir that it was expected Bashir would join Hizb ul Mujahideen.

“We have cracked the (Jawahar Nagar) case. The SPO had executed the plan with the help of a civilian who also hails from Shopian district. We have identified the civilian and he will be arrested soon,” Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order/Security) Munir Khan told Greater Kashmir.

When inquired whether a photograph released on social media showing SPO Adil carrying a gun, with four more weapons in his background, was authentic, Khan said that though the police are investigating the veracity of the photograph, “it was expected that Adil would join Hizb ul Mujahideen.”

Earlier, the police sounded a high alert across Srinagar while all routes leading to southern Kashmir are being monitored closely. Nakas have been laid in several city areas, in a bid to nab the SPO.

SPO Adil, aged 24, (belt No. 488/SPO), hails from Zainapora, the native village of the PDP legislator.

Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Dilbag Singh has announced a reward of over 2 lakh rupees on his capture along with weapons.
