Militant critically injured in Pulwama gunfight hospitalised, says police

Srinagar: A militant of Hizbul Mujaideen, who was injured in Babagund village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, has been admitted at SMHS hospital where he is presently being operated upon by the doctors, police said Saturday as per reported by news agency GNS.

A police officer identified the militant as Showkat Ahmad Dar son of Nazir Ahmad Dar of Muran, Pulwama who was injured in the gunfight at Babagund where his associate Shabir Ahmad Dar alias Maali was killed.

The third one, believed to be army man-turned-militant Zahoor Ahmad Thoker reportedly managed to escape.

The officer said that Showkat was admitted by some unknown persons who wrote his name as Bashir Ahmad in the hospital registry.

According to a doctor, Dar has received a bullet wound in his abdomen which severely damaged his internal organs. The doctor said his condition is very critical.

The police officer said they have taken cognizance and further action is being taken.

Earlier, militant Shabir Ahmad Dar was killed in a gunfight with armed forces in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday, police said.

A police official said that army men of 55 RR, CRPF personnel and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police laid a siege around a cluster of houses in Babgund area of Pulwama town and started door to door search operations around 2am.

Militants hiding in one of the residential houses fired upon the forces, triggering a gunfight, said the official, adding that one militant was killed during the exchange of fire.

Meanwhile, a police official said that curfew has been imposed in entire Pulwama town “as a precautionary measure” to prevent protests.
