Srinagar: Intense clashes erupted in Khanyar locality of Downtown Srinagar as the news of reported killing of a local militant in a gunfight with armed forces in Fateh Kadal locality reached the locality.
The two militants who had been killed in the gunfight were identified as top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Mehraj ud Din Bangroo of Fateh Kadal and Faid Mushtaq Waza of Khanyar, as per PTI reports. However, officials have yet to identify the slain militants.
The son of house owner was also killed in the gunfight. He was identified as Rayees.
An eye witness was quoted by Greater Kashmir as having said that ‘youth took to streets and clashed with the forces in Kaw mohalla area of Khanyar as the news of death of Waza reached there’.
The armed forces retaliated by firing tear gas and pellets.
