Srinagar: Peoples Conference Chief Sajad Gani Lone has claimed that the next mayor of Srinagar will be from his party.
In a tweet, the former minister said:
All set inshallah to have the first mayor from PC. Expecting very good results. Time to give Srinagar what it deserves. A set of hardworking people who work there on the ground.

Lone’s claim comes days after Governor Staya Pal Malik stoked a controversy when he told NDTV that the mayor of Srinagar will be a ‘foreign educated person.’However, Raj Bhavan in a statement had said that the comments made by the Governor regarding the Srinagar mayor were misrepresented by a New Delhi-based private news channel.
The spokesman said that over the past few days, ever since Governor Satya Pal Malik gave a live interview to a TV Channel in Delhi, there has been a persistent attempt by that channel and certain other channels to play up one part of the interview in a distorted manner leading to a flurry of allegations that the Governor has already decided that a certain candidate will be the Mayor of Srinagar.
In another tweet, Lone said that his party was set to take over urban bodies in Kupwara, Handwara, Langate, Sumbal, Pattan among others.
And PC all set to take over urban bodies in kupwara Handwara Langet sumbal Pattan among others. Let us hope we r able to contribute to planned urbanisation which I believe is the future.
