Srinagar: In a surprising poll result from Srinagar Municipaltites Lawaypora ward, senior politician and Congress leader Tariq Qarra’s wife Asifa Hamid Qarra lost to independent candidate Fancy Jan.
Officials said that from SMC’s ward No 31, Lawaypora, Asifa Tariq Karra of Congress got 501 votes while Fancy Jan (independent) got 519 votes.
The counting for the polls that concluded on October 16 began at 8 am today.
For the Srinagar municipal corporation, the counting is being held at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar and for the Jammu municipal corporation it is being held at the Polytechnic Institute near Bikram Chowk.
For other districts of the state, counting is being held at the respective district headquarters.
Tight security arrangements have been made all across the state.
