Two militants, armed forces personnel killed in Sopore gunfight, says police

Police says “identity of slain militants being ascertained”

Srinagar: Two militants and an armed forces personnel were killed in a gun battle on Friday that raged between armed forces and militants in Pazalpora, Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

It was the second anti-militancy operation in Baramulla district in the last two days.

Police has said that four militants were killed in the district, in two separate operations from Thursday.

Police said that a joint search operation was launched by police and security forces at Pazalpora area of Dangiwacha in Sopore based on credible inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

“As the search operation was going on, the hiding militants fired upon the search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter,” police said, adding that in the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed, whose identity is being ascertained.

In the initial exchange of fire, one soldier identified as Lance Naik Brijesh Kumar of 22 RR received serious bullet injuries and was evacuated to hospital for medical attention.

However, the injured soldier succumbed at the hospital.
