Mirwaiz pays tributes to ‘martyrs of Jammu Massacre’, says truth will prevail

Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Tuesday paid tributes to the martyrs of Jammu massacre via social media and said that the entire nation pays homage to them and their sacrifice.

In October and November, following the Partition of India in 1947, in the Jammu region of then princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, a large number of Muslims were massacred and others driven away to West Punjab by extremist Hindus and Sikhs, aided and abetted by the forces of the Dogra State headed by the Maharaja Hari Singh, while in the Mirpur region of today’s Pakistan-administered Kashmir, many non-Muslims, estimated as over 20,000, were massacred by Pakistani tribesmen and soldiers.

He tweeted: “Remembering more than two lakh #JammuMartyrs massacred on this day by fanatics aided and abetted by the Dogra rulers of the day . Entire Nation pays homage to them and their tremendous sacrifice. Inshallah truth will prevail (SIC).”

The activists of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) played a key role in planning and executing the massacre.
