Panchayat polls: Till 12 pm, Rajouri, Bandipora record highest polling percentage in Jammu and Kashmir region

Srinagar: North Kashmir’s Bandipora district recorded the highest polling percentage at 57.2 percent in the Valley till noon, following the overall voter turnout percentage that stood at 43 percent across the state.

Accordingly, in the whole Jammu and Kashmir region, Rajouri recorded the highest at 61.1 percent, followed by Poonch at 59.9, Bandipora at 57.2, Kupwara at 56.9, Udhampur at 55.5, Kathua at 53.3, Doda at 51.5, Ramban at 48.9, Kishtwar at 43.7, Leh at 40.3, Kargil at 35.3, Ganderbal at 21.7, Anantnag at 8.8 and Baramulla at 7.4.

The second phase of Panchayat polls kick started in Jammu and Kashmir amid stringent security following intense conflict over the past few weeks in the region, IANS reported.

Large contingents of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had been deployed at the polling stations to ensure a peaceful process, according to the report.
