Alliance on the cards? Mehbooba, Omar to meet Congress’ Azaad to discuss framework of forming govt in JK

PDP, Congress and NC aiming to form the government in JK

Srinagar: High level sources within the three parties have told Free Press Kashmir that the Congress high command has given a go ahead to formation of coalition government with the regional Peoples Democratic Congress (PDP) and National Conference (NC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Congress, as per sources, is likely to support the govt from outside.

The parties, it is believed, have decided to join hands to prevent attempts on splitting of PDP and poaching Congress and NC’s MLAs.

New Delhi based The Wire had earlier reported that Congress Party along with two major regional powers of Jammu and Kashmir – People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and National Conference (NC) are likely to meet officially this week and discuss the possibility of meeting the governor to stake claim to form government.

Journalist Azaan Javaid in the report had quoted a senior congress leader as saying that the governor has hinted at keeping a status quo, ‘which means he will not dissolve the assembly and keep it in an animated state, thus avoiding a fresh election. President’s rule will be imposed soon and it would have been ideal to dissolve the assembly but this has not happened. Instead, the BJP is attempting to break regional political parties and form a new alliance.”

The development comes days after Muzaffar Beigh, who has played a key role in the formation of the PDP, held a press conference hinting at joining a ‘third front’ if it emerges.

Beigh referred to Sajjad Lone, whose Peoples Conference claimed a win in the earlier held Municipal Polls by support from the BJP, as his son. Beigh had said that formation of a third front should be encouraged.
