Srinagar: Six militants were killed in a gunfight with the armed forces in Kapran area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday.
The identity of the slain militants was not immediately known. However, reports said that top commanders were among the slain militants.
The encounter broke out in Batagund at around 1:30 am following a joint operation launched by the police, army and the CRPF.
“Two more militants killed. Total six militants killed. Weapons and war like stores recovered,” army said in a tweet, adding that a soldier was also killed in the gunfight.
A youth was injured after being hit by a bullet in ongoing clashes near the site of the gunfight.
Reports said that youth took to streets in Batagund village as soon as the news of gunfight spread in the area. The forces used live ammunition, pellets and tear gas to break up the protests, leaving at least one youth wounded.
The youth, identified as Faizan Ahmad, was rushed to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for treatment, after a bullet hit his head.
