Clashes erupt near Kulgam gunfight site, several reportedly injured

Srinagar: Several civilians were reportedly injured in ongoing clashes with armed forces near the site of a gunfight in Redwani Bala area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday.

Reports stated that civilians took to the streets after the gunfight broke out at 1 am and pelted stones to disrupt the operation.

In retaliation, forces’ fired pellets at the protesters to chase them away.

An official at Public Health Centre Frisal said that three persons with pellet injuries were brought to the facility for treatment. “They were referred to district hospital Anantnag for specialized treatment,” he said.

Meanwhile, firing has stopped at the gunfight site. Two militants and an army man were killed and two CRPF personnel injured in the gunfight.

The identity of the slain militants, believed to be affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant outfit, was not immediately known.
