Close associate of LeT commanders Naveed Jat, Azad Dada among two militants killed in Kulgam gunfight: Police

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police said Tuesday that the two militants who had been killed in a gunfight with armed forces in Kulgam were associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant outfit.

A spokesman identified the slain as Ajaz Ahmad Makroo son of Late Ghulam Rasool Makroo resident of Qaimoh and Waris Ahmad Malik son of Bashir Ahmad resident of Arwani.

He said the duo according to police records were affiliated with LeT.

“Ajaz Makroo as per police records had a long history of crime records since 2017. He was a close associate of terrorist commanders Naveed Jat and Azad Dada. Several cases were registered against him and the prominent among them include FIR No. 60/2016, FIR No. 45/2017, FIR No. 100/2017, FIR No. 10/2018, FIR No. 13/2018 registered at Police Station Kulgam. Similarly, Waris was also figured in several crimes cases,” said the spokesman.

He identified the militant killed in a gunfight with the forces in Hafoo Reshipora Tral as Shakir Hassan Dar son of Ghulam Hassan Dar resident of Rathsuna Tral.

“He was a part of Zakir Musa group and had a long history of crime records since 2015,” said the spokesman.

“Huge quantity of arms & ammunition including rifles were recovered from the encounter sites at Tral and Kulgam. All these materials have been taken in the case records for further investigation,” he added.

He appealed to the people not to venture inside the encounter zone “since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.”
