Viral video shows armed militant escaping alive from destroyed gunfight site in Budgam with help from civilians

The militant can be seen emerging alive from rubble of house damaged in Budgam gunfight

Srinagar: A militant on Wednesday survived the fierce gunfight and emerged unharmed from the rubble of a house which was badly damaged by explosives in Chattergam area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

A video seemingly recorded in the aftermath of the gunfight showed a militant armed with an assault rifle being whisked away by civilians who had gathered at the house.

The video has since gone viral on social media and instant messaging platforms.

The authenticity of the video couldn’t be independently authenticated. The police has not yet made a comment on the veracity of the video.

Top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Naveed Jatt was killed along with an associate who is yet to be identified in the gunfight that broke out early today in Kuthipora area, police said.

A police spokesperson said Naveed Jatt alias Hanzallah affiliated with LeT was killed in the gunfight that raged since early Wednesday.

According to the police, Jatt was involved in the assassination of Rising Kashmir newspaper’s editor and journalist Shujaat Bukhari, who was assassinated on June 14 outside his office in Srinagar, a day before Eid and few minutes before Iftaar (breaking of Fast during Ramzan).

Bukhari succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on arrival.

On November 23, police claimed that one of the six militants killed in a gunfight with armed forces in Sutkipora area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, Azad Malik, was also accused of having been involved in the assassination.

In the gunfight, three army men were wounded.
