Panchayat polls: Till 10 am, Pulwama records lowest voting percentage of 0.2 in Kashmir

Srinagar: Pulwama in southern Kashmir recorded the lowest voting percentage of 0.2 till 10 AM during the fifth phase of panchayat elections in the valley, as per the figures released by the electoral officer.

Budgam in central Kashmir recorded the highest turnout till 10 AM.

Here are the figures released by the chief electoral officer till 10 AM:

Kupwara 3.6 percent, Bandipora 12.6 percent, Baramulla 12.4 percent, Ganderbal 6.3 percent, Budgam 13.8 percent, Pulwama 0.2 percent, Anantnag 2.8 percent, Doda 21.5 percent, Ramban 22 percent, Udhampur 21.9 percent, Reasi 15.9 percent, Jammu 25 percent, Rajouri 21.4 percent and Poonch 29.9 percent.

Voting for the fifth phase of the Panchayat polls in Jammu and Kashmir began today amid stringent security arrangements, IANS reported.

Voting is taking place in 2,512 polling stations — 769 in Kashmir division and 1,743 in Jammu division.

Polling started at 8 a.m. and will end at 2 p.m.

A total of 848 polling stations have been categorised as ‘hypersensitive’ — 755 in Kashmir and 93 in Jammu division.

Poll officials, quoted in the IANS report, said that 4,763 candidates are in the fray in this phase for 309 sarpanch and 1,534 panch seats while 118 sarpanchs and 1,046 panchs have been already elected unopposed.
