Srinagar: Soon after he assumed the office as Deputy Mayor Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Sheikh Imran, a businessman says that by his analysis about the condition of the city, “it is in the last stage of cancer.”

He, however, believes that it would be easier to make it run and take decisions for 6 months and take Srinagar out of the “royal mess” as there is no government in place here.

Imran addressed an informal press meet at Hotel Grand Mahal, Nishat where on his invitation media personnel were present to “put forth their suggestions, critique, ideas, discussions, support, guidance, and association to help SMC serve people and make Srinagar a dream city and smart city.”

He picked up on trivial as well as critical issues like corruption, enquiry on unpaid dues by corporations, congestion in the city, traffic mess, parking spaces, encroachments, dysfunctional streetlights, open and untreated drainage system, water logging, lack of departmental coordination, transport system, unplanned work, dysfunctional public toilets, unchecked rates of food items and food adulteration etc.

Imran assured to work on all the issues and has kept his office open to all for any suggestions.

“I won’t blame my predecessors. Bygones are bygones. We have to see what we can do now,” he says.

“We have to take the city out of the royal mess. From getting a birth certificate to a death certificate, one has to beg and bribe. This has to be ended,” says Imran who in the conference also revealed that the no government phase in Kashmir is actually good for it.

“Thank God, there is no government for 6 months. Lalchowk will be cleared,” he said.
