Fresh snowfall: Traffic suspended on Srinagar-Jammu highway, Bandipora-Gurez road

Srinagar: Traffic was suspended on the Srinagar-Jammu highway on Wednesday after fresh snowfall around the Jawahar Tunnel.

An official said that the strategic highway that connects Kashmir valley with the rest of the world was closed for traffic on Wednesday morning after fresh snowfall on both sides of the Jawahar Tunnel.

Meanwhile, Bandipora-Gurez road was also closed for traffic after heavy snowfall in the area. An official said the road was closed for all types of traffic after heavy snowfall in Gurez, Tragbal and Razdan Pass.

Weatherman has predicted moderate rain or snow during the next 24 hours with possibility of heavy snowfall on January 4 and 5 which could lead to disruption of surface and air transportation.

“Around 7 inches and 1 feet snow have accumulated in Gurez and Razdan pass respectively since late last night. The road has been closed as a precautinary measure, ” he said.

Meanwhile, the district administration has also decided to stop vehicular movement on Bandipora-Sumbal road for few hours due to snowfall in the area.
