JK Govt to take care of newborn baby who was almost buried alive by father

Jammu and Kashmir Government on Wednesday said that Child Welfare Committee Srinagar has taken note of the incident when a father attempted to bury an infant born with a deformity alive on Tuesday, reported GNS.

Secretary Social Welfare Department Dr Farooq Lone said the government will take care of the child, GNS reported.

“The Child Welfare Committee in Srinagar has taken cognizance of (the incident). The child is presently undergoing treatment at GB Pant Hospital,” he said, according to the report.

A resident of Shopian district of south Kashmir, Manzoor Ahmed Bonyari on Tuesday tried to bury his baby alive but was caught red-handed by the locals.

He had claimed that he didn’t have money to take of the condition of the baby. The baby was born a few days ago in LD Hospital and is suffering from a tumor.

Banyari, had approached a grave digger in the city’s largest graveyard, Malkah and had asked him to dig a grave for his son. He had told him that he had died the previous day.

The grave digger obliged however, as soon as he lowered the infant into the grave, he started screaming which caught the attention of the locals. A group of people apprehended Banyari and handed him over to Nowhatta police station.

“People handed over the accused to the police station in Nowhatta. He stated that the infant was suffering from some congenital disease for which he did not have the means to treat the child,” a police official said.

The accused was arrested and a case was registered against him. He was later released on bail, the police said.
