Why didn’t Mehbooba visit militants’ families when she was in power, says Omar

Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday questioned PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti for visiting militant families.

He said that when she was in power and had good relations with the Narendra Modi, she didn’t visit them then.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of workers convention in Kulgam district, Omar said as Chief Minister she could have done more for such families, but at that time she completely forgot them.

“She could have done good for these families, when she was heading a government. She had good relations with Prime Minister. She was calling Defence Minister on phone and was also heading a powerful Unified Command,” he said.

Omar said but at that time she never bothered to visit them.

He said Mehbooba had power, then she didn’t visit the families of militants. “Now when she has nothing with her, even her party is in shambles. She is visiting these families,” said the NC vice president.

“I don’t have problems why she is visiting their families. I have a problem why did she not visit them when she was in power,” he said.

Omar said it is for the people to decide if Mehbooba is doing all this for polls.

Earlier, the Media Adviser of Mehbooba Mufti had said that she wants talks to be initiated with militants but at an appropriate time.

Recently, Mehbooba had said that if the Army Chief can advocate talks with Taliban then why are there ‘different standards when it comes to own (Kashmir) people?

However, Rawat had said that the analogy cannot be applied in Jammu and Kashmir where the government has rejected talks with stakeholders including the Hurriyat and militants.
