Jawahar Tunnel avalanche: Three bodies recovered, three policemen rescued alive

Srinagar: Three bodies were recovered and three policemen were rescued alive on Friday from the police post that got buried in an avalanche near Jawahar Tunnel in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district last evening, reports stated.

Ten persons including  six policemen, two fire service personnel and two prisoners were buried alive after a snow avalanche hit a police post near Jawahar Tunnel.

A rescue operation had been launched but was consequently hindered due to heavy snow accumulation and strong winds.

Quoting officials, news agency KNS reported that three bodies were recovered by the rescuers from the avalanche site.

Earlier, three policemen were rescued alive by the rescuers which included teams of the state police, SDRF and the army.

An official said that searches are underway to rescue the remaining four persons.
