Pulwama gunfight: Two militants killed, searches on to retrieve bodies

Srinagar: Two militants were killed in an ongoing gunfight in Pingleena area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday, in which a civilian and four army men, including a Major, were killed and an army man wounded.

An army spokesman confirmed the death of two militants and four army men in the gunfight.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police South Kashmir range Amit Kumar told GNS that two militants were killed in the operation, reported news agency GNS.

He said that the bodies of the killed militants have been recovered along with as many weapons and other war like stores.

The DIG further said that the searches in the area are still underway to find out if there is any more militant body.

A police officer earlier said that the gunfight broke out today morning after a joint team of army’s 55 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation following a “credible inputs” about the presence of two to three militants in the area.
