After Gurugram, cases of forced closure of meat shops during Navratri has happened in Ghaziabad. Nand Kishore Gurjar, the BJP legislator from Ghaziabad who leads ‘anti-meat shop’ charge on Saturday said that opening up of meat shops during Navratri is “rashtradroh” (anti-national).
“Meat shops were opened near temples in Loni. It is illegal and amounts to rashtradroh. None of this would have been possible without the connivance of local officials,” the MLA from Loni said, reported The Indian Express.
At the same time, Ghaziabad’s SSP UK Agarwal says that he has not received any complaint in this regard.
“Navratris have begun and it is absolutely wrong to continue slaughter. Tomorrow if there is tension in the area because of this, who will be responsible?” Gurjar said.
After the Uttar Pradesh government had come out with guidelines in 2017, licences of meat shops and slaughterhouses were regularised and no issues with regard to meat shops were raised in Loni in the period.
Pradeep Chaudhary, BJP media in-charge in Ghaziabad said he was not aware of the incident. “If the MLA did it, it must have been his own agenda. We are not aware of this,” he said.
