A truck carrying currency notes and other material caught fire on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway near Qazigund in south Kashmir on Monday.
Reports said that the truck bearing registration number JK05A 8795 caught fire near Panzath area of Qazigund due to unknown reasons.
Reports added that the driver and the conductor of the truck had a narrow escape, but the vehicle, they said, turned to ashes. Police has reached at the spot and investigations are going on to ascertain the cause of fire, said an official.
He said they were also investigating the currency being transported on the truck.
Meanwhile, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti while ‘raising alarm’ has demanded for a thorough investigation.
Alarming.Authorities must conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain how & why trucks are being used to carry cash for poll distribution. That too a day right before Anantnag votes. This is a good lesson to those who think votes can be purchased by bribes. https://t.co/kN6jvNeyni
