Shopian gunfight: Two militants killed, youth injured in clashes

Srinagar: Two militants were killed and an army man was wounded in an ongoing gunfight at a village in south Kashmir’s poll bound Shopian district on early Friday.

A police official said the militants opened fire on the forces from a residential house during a cordon and search operation in Aadkhara village of Imam Sahab area of the district.

The firing had stopped when this report was being filed. Officials said that there are reports of third militant killing as well. “The report was being verified,” he said.

Mobile Internet service was snapped in entire south Kashmir. The Shopian district is going to polls on May 6 for Anantnag Lok Sabha seat.

Meanwhile, clashes erupted near the gunfight site in which a youth identified as Mudasir Ahmad, a resident of Wuyan village of Imam Sahab suffered a bullet injury in his leg following which he was shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities also suspended train services from Srinagar to Banihal and vice versa following apprehensions of “law and order” situation in wake of the gunfight.
