Bandipora minor ‘rape’: Clashes erupt outside Amar Singh, Bemina Degree colleges

Srinagar: Clashes erupted outside Bemina Degree College and Amar Singh College in Srinagar after students staged protests against the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl of Sumbal area of Bandipora district in north Kashmir last week.

An eyewitness said that the students of Amar Singh College staged massive protests inside the campus and tried to move outside. However, the police deployed in the area didn’t allow them to come outside, triggering clashes.

Similarly, clashes erupted near Bemina Degree College between students and JK Police after the campus erupted in massive protest.

Earlier, students of the Sri Pratap Singh college, boycotted their classes and took a protest rally from the Press Colony to their college.

Students were demanding that the rapist should be punished according to the ‘Shariah Law’. Protesting students were carrying placards which read  ‘We want punishment as per Shariah law’ and ‘Stone the rapist to death’.
