Students protest against Bandipora ‘rape’ in Srinagar, say rapist should be punished according to Shariah Law

Srinagar: College students held a protest against the alleged rape of a three year old girl in Bandipora at the Press Colony in Srinagar on Tuesday.

Students of the Sri Pratap Singh college, according to reports, boycotted their classes and took a protest rally from the Press Colony to their college.

Moreover, members of the Kashmir Reform Group also held a protest against the alleged rape of the three year old girl.

Students were demanding that the rapist should be punished according to the ‘Shariah Law’. Protesting students were carrying placards which read  ‘We want punishment as per Shariah law’ and ‘Stone the rapist to death’.

On Monday, almost entire valley seethed in anger and protests were held which even took a violent turn. The Government has however assured that justice will be served ‘on war footing’ in the case and has appealed for calm.

Resistance leaders while calling the incident as a stain on the rich social fabric of Kashmir, appealed people to be vigilant against those elements who want to give the incident a ‘sectarian colour’.
