Gunfight breaks out in Shopian, third in a day

Srinagar: A gunfight broke out between militants and armed forces at Handew Village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thrusday.

This is the the third gunfight of the day.

Reports reaching GNS said that a joint team army, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon and search at Handew village late today afternoon. A police officer told GNS that cordon was launched on specific information in the area.

As such the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot the hiding militants fired upon the forces triggering an encounter.

Till this report was being filed the intermittent firing was going.

Earlier, a gunfight broke out in the Kandi forests of district Kupwara.

Earlier, in Pulwama’s Dalipora area, three militants including top commander pf Jaish-e-Mohammad were killed in a pre-dawn gunfight. A civilian, identified as Rayees Ahmad Dar was also killed. An army man too was killed.
