After being missing for 30 hours, body of Cafe Coffee Day owner recovered from river in Mangaluru

The body of Café Coffee Day owner, one of the leading coffee outlet of India, VG Siddhartha,  after been missing for 30 hours was recovered from Nethravathi river near Mangaluru this morning, Mangaluru city Police said.

A massive search operation involving multiple agencies was on since Monday evening, when Siddhartha went missing.

“Two fishermen found Siddhartha’s body early this morning about 500 metres away from the road bridge from where he is alleged to have jumped into the river on Monday night,” Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil told reporters.

The body has been moved to a hospital in Mangaluru. The police said his body will be handed over to the family after legal formalities are completed.

“I saw a body floating while I was fishing and then, I informed the police. I participated in the rescue operations with the district administration yesterday as well,” said a fisherman Rithesh, as reported by NDTV

The Mangaluru police chief said an investigation was underway to determine whether Mr Siddhartha took his own life.

As reported by The Times of India, Siddhartha had written a letter to the board of the retail chain outlet and its staff, which indicated that he was facing huge financial burden and was under tremendous pressure from one of his private equity partners.
