China denies capturing Indian soldiers after Indian media reports 10 freed

The Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Zhao Lijian, said that China had not detained any Indian Troops after the Indian media reported that 10 soldiers were released by China after a “prolonged” discussion at a Major general-level.

The American news agency, AP, quoted Zhao saying, “As far as I know, currently China has not seized any Indian personnel,” when he was asked about the report at a daily briefing.

Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese state media Global Times Hu Xijin said on Twitter, “these 10 Indian soldiers must have been treated well in China, more fortunate than those 17 Indians who died in freezing temperatures. In fact, most of the Indian soldiers died due to the backward logistical support of the Indian army. China shouldn’t be blamed.”

Zhao also said that “the right and wrong is very clear and the responsibility lies entirely with the Indian side.”

He added in the news briefing that the two sides are in communication over diplomatic and military channels. “We hope India can work with China to maintain the long-term development of bilateral relations.”

The Indian Express had reported that the release of these army personnels were secured after ‘hectic negotiations’ between the two sides, including three rounds of talks at the Major General level from Tuesday to Thursday.
