With 15,968 new cases, India’s COVID tally at 4.56 lakh, death toll crosses 14,476

About 10,500 patients recovered in past 24 hours

New Delhi: India recorded a single-day highest spike as 15,968 people test positive for the Coronavirus in the last 24 hours and 465 people died due to the pandemic taking the death toll to 14,476.

As of now, the total number of active cases in the country counts to 1,83,022 active cases and total number of positive cases has crossed the 4.56 lakh mark.

As the virus outbreak has led to a few armed forces testing positive, a revised protocol has been issued to contain the spread of the virus amongst the forces.

The protocol includes the exemption of 14-day quarantine period on specific conditions like commuting from one duty station to another without any halt in between and reporting to the duty in official transport so as to ensure minimum social contact.

In the wake of the drastic spread of the virus, India managed to have about 1000 COVID-19 testing labs so as to increase the pace of testing and avoid rapid spread.

The recovery rate stands at 56.70% in India. About 10,500 patients recovered in past 24 hours.

On Tuesday, medical research body ICMR validated the 1,000th testing laboratory for Covid-19. Out of these 1,000 COVID-19 testing laboratories, 730 are in government setups and 270 laboratories are in the private sector.

Also, the number of RT-PCR tests for detection of coronavirus crossed the 75.5 lakh mark on Tuesday. As of June 23, a total of 73,52,911 samples have been tested and as many as 2,15,195 samples were tested in a day alone.
