Massive upsurge in cyber attacks from China, says Maharashtra Police

Hackers are suspected to have database of about 20 lakh Indians

New Delhi: Over 40,000 attempts of cyber-attacks by Hackers based in China have been reported in the past five days. The attacks usually aimed at Information Technology sector as per a top police official based in Maharashtra.

Cautioning the internet users about the recent attempts by hackers, police officials based in Maharashtra said that users should be careful about sudden phishing attempts and should avail cyber security audits of their IT systems.

According to a report published by NDTV, most of them probably hailed from Chengdu region of China.

The sudden outburst of attacks was noticed after the upheaval that triggered between China and India.

According to Yashasvi Yadav, Special Inspector General of Police, cyber wing, the attacks aimed at triggering issues such as denial of service, hijacking of Internet Protocol and phishing.

As per the Maharashtra Cyber officials, these hackers are suspected to have database of about 20 lakh Indian email IDs.

There are attempts made to obtain confidential information including passwords which are being accessed by sending fraudulent mails and messages. The attempts can be made by online, government agencies, departments and trade unions as per the Police officials.
