Bandipora: Family alleges their daughter was ‘burnt alive by in-laws’, demands justice

Srinagar: The relatives and family members of a woman, who allegedly committed suicide on July 11, staged a protest demonstration in Chatibandi village of Bandipora district on Sunday.

According to the protesting family members, the deceased woman was ‘burnt alive by her in-laws’ at Chattibandi and they claim to have evidence of the incident. The family members of the diseased assembled in main market Chattibandi and held a protest demonstration demanding justice to the victim.

A 30-year-old woman (name withheld) had sustained serious burn injuries at her home in Chatibandi village and subsequently died at SMHS hospital in Srinagar on July 11.

In this regard, officials said that police have arrested one accused and further investigation is going on.

Giving details about the incident, the brother of the deceased woman said that someone from the hospital informed them about her condition following which they reached the hospital and saw her burnt body lying in the hospital.

Requesting officials to take action in this regard, the family has sought a stern punishment for those all those responsible for the death.
