India records more than 50k COVID cases on second consecutive day, tally mounts to 16,38,870

Srinagar: For the second consecutive day, India has recorded more than 50,000 fresh COVID infections in the last 24 hours, pushing its tally to  16,38,870.

According to a data showed by Health Ministry of India, India has added 1,053,377 cases since July 1 in which 702,689 have been just in a fortnight. It is the third worst-hit country in the world after the United States and Brazil.

The government has said more than 70 per cent of the people have recovered from COVID with mild or very mild symptoms.

Such cases may not even require admission to COVID blocks or dedicated hospitals, the Health Ministry said.

Across the world, there have been a total of 1,72,95,674 confirmed coronavirus cases, according to the latest update. This includes 64,99,539 people who are being treated, 1,01,23,361 who have recovered and 6,72,774 who have died.

The highest number of coronavirus cases currently is in the United States which has registered 44,93,661 confirmed COVID cases.

1,52,040 people have died of the deadly disease in the country. Brazil and India are next in line with 26,10,102 and 16,38,870 confirmed coronavirus cases and 91,263 and 35,747 deaths respectively.
