6 civilians injured as armies of India, Pakistan exchange fire in Kupwara

Srinagar: Six civilians were injured after armies of India and Pakistan exchanged fire along the Line of Control in Karnah area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Officials said that Pakistan army resorted to ceasefire “violation” along the LoC by firing small arms and mortars, resulting in injuries to six civilians at separate places. “Army gave a befitting reply,” they added.

They said that three civilians identified as Mohammad Arif from Shamspora, Mohammad Yaqoob from Baghballa Kachadiyan and Syed Rafaqat from Kachadiyan, were injured and subsequently hospitalized.

Hours after, a similar incident was reported in Rangward in which other three civilians identified as 42-year-old Hamida Begium wife Mohammad Akbar, Zakir Khan,24, and Nasser Ahmad Khan, were injured.

The injured trio was later shifted to Sub District Hospital Kralpora wherefrom the woman stated to be critical was referred to Srinagar for advanced treatment, officials said

Meanwhile, army officials also said that Pakistani army “violated” the ceasefire along the LoC in Uri by resorting to unprovoked firing.

The Army gave a befitting reply to the “unprovoked aggression and retaliated in adequate measure”, the army official said.
