Srinagar: To discuss the next stage of disengagement by the Chinese troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh sector, senior military commanders from India and China are holding talks on Saturday.

Quoting sources familiar with the development, a report by Hindustan Times said that the major general level meeting, which comes after the fifth round of talks between corps commander ranked officers on August 2, began at 11am in the Daulat Beg Oldi area on the Chinese side of LAC.

Throughout the discussions, the situation in the Depsang plains will also be discussed.

According to the report, the last round of negotiations was held at Moldo on the Chinese side of the LAC as talks entered a critical phase due to serious differences between the two armies in the Finger Area near Pangong Tso.

It also came amid the Chinese People’s Liberation Army reluctance to vacate positions held by it in what New Delhi claims to be Indian Territory.

However, China has been reluctant to step back from Pangong Tso and this action of theirs has stalled the disengagement process.

In China’s capital Beijing, the country’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin claimed frequent communication between the two countries.

“Recently India and China have held frequent communication via diplomatic and military channels, with four rounds of commander-level talks and three meetings under the working mechanism for consultation and coordination on China-India Border affairs,” he said

On July 24, after a virtual meeting of the working mechanism for consultation and coordination was held in New Delhi, both India and China agreed on early and complete disengagement as per their separate statements, one from Beijing and other from New Delhi.
