JK should get statehood again, says Yashwant Sinha ‘Article 370, 35-A must be restored’

Srinagar: Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Yashwant Sinha on Monday said that Jammu and Kashmir must get the statehood again and Article 370 and 35-A that was scrapped on August 5 last year, should be brought back.

In his twitter post, the former Minister of Finance and External Affairs, Government of India, who is also the member of the Concerned Group of Citizens (CGC), welcomed the resolution of the local political parties in Jammu and Kashmir to insist on the restoration of the status quo ante.

He stated that he stands with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the erstwhile state must get Statehood again. The Articles 370 and 35-A must be brought back and in fact, become the basis for more powers to all states, he said.

“I welcome the resolve of the political parties in J&K to insist on the restoration of the status quo ante. J&K must be a state again, articles 370 and 35A must be brought back and in fact become the basis for more powers to all states. I stand with the people of J&K,” Sinha tweeted

Earlier on August 22, the signatories which include Farooq Abdullah of JKNC, Mehbooba Mufti of JKPDP, GA Mir of Congress, M Y Tarigami of CPI (M), Sajad Gani Lone of JKPC, Muzaffar Shah of JKANC, in a joint statement said that unfortunate events of 5th August 2019 have unrecognizably changed the relationship between J&K and New Delhi.

“We all reiterate our commitment to collectively fight to restore the Special Status of J&K as guaranteed under the Constitution and the commitments made from time to time. There is unanimity amongst us that collective institution is the effective way to fight for these rights and tirelessly struggle to get back the special status and restore the Constitutional guarantees forcibly taken away, against our will,” the leaders said.

Later in the day, Jammu and Kashmir Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) President Ravinder Raina said the Kashmir-based politicians are day-dreaming for the restoration of special status.

He said that restoration of Article 370 and Article 35A of the Indian constitution is next to impossible.

Both the Articles, according to Raina, were like a wall of hatred which did nothing except digging an ocean of “misunderstandings and retarding the growth and development” of the erstwhile state.

Reacting to the statement by Kashmir politicians, Raina, said that restoration of Articles 370 and 35(a) is next to impossible. Due to these Articles, JK has suffered for decades and they gave rise to militancy and separatism.
