WEATHER: MeT predicts widespread rains in next 72 hours in JK, warns of ‘possible flash floods’

Srinagar: The Department of the Disaster Management of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday predicted widespread light to moderate rains for the next 72 hours in the erstwhile state.

The spokesman of the department said that scattered light to moderate rain is also expected in Ladakh and Gilgit-Baltistan region on August 26 and 27.

The circular issued by the department suggested that continuous rain in vulnerable places may lead to flash floods and landslides.

The circular further read that India Meteorological Department’s experimental model exhibited soil at various places in JK, especially in Jammu is ‘fully saturated’ and bears a low water holding capacity.

It also warned of ‘temporary disruption’ of traffic movement on roads including Srinagar-Jammu highway, Srinagar-Leh highway, Leh-Manali thoroughfare, Mughal Road and Sadhna Pass.
