Nothing more important for him than values of truth and justice, says Modi on Imam Hussain

New Delhi: Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi paid homage to Imam Hussain on Sunday to mark Muharram, saying nothing was more important to him than the values of truth and justice.

Imam Hussain’s emphasis on equality as well as fairness is noteworthy and gives strength to many, the prime minister said.

“We recall the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS). For him, there was nothing more important than the values of truth and justice. His emphasis on equality as well as fairness are noteworthy and give strength to many,” Modi said in a tweet.

Authorities have imposed restrictions in parts of Kashmir to disallow the religious Muharram processions.

Earlier, at least twenty mourners, who were a part of a Muharram procession heading towards an Imambara, in central Kashmir’s Budgam district were injured after police reportedly resorted to aerial firing and tear-gas shelling on the crowd.

In Srinagar, Police resorted to tear gas shelling and firing pellets on Shia Muslims taking part in the Muharram precession injuring over 30. Many have reportedly been hit with pellets in their eyes
