Three militants, ASI killed in gunfight in Panthachowk, says police

Srinagar: Three militants and an Assistant Sub inspector (ASI) of Jammu and Kashmir Police were killed in an overnight gunfight at Panthachowk in outskirts of Srinagar district.

Police officials said that three militants were killed in an overnight gunfight and bodies of the trio have been retrieved from the gunfight spot with arms and ammunition.

However identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained.

“The operation was halted due to darkness, as the first ray of light strike this morning, the operation was resumed,” said an official source.

During initial exchange of firing ASI of JK police identified as Babu Ram had received serious injuries and succumbed later on.

Earlier, three bike-borne militants had attacked a joint team of police and CRPF near Panthachowk in which no damage was done, officials added.

Soon after the attack, the fleeing militants were engaged in a gunfight by armed forces personnel in nearby area, the officer added.
