Srinagar: A brief exchange of gunfire and 15 hours long cordon and search operation has ended in Pulwama district this morning.

The gunfight began after a joint team of 55 RR, 182, 183 CRPF and SOG Pulwama launched a cordon-and-search-operation following inputs about the presence of militants.

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off a gunfight.

However, sources said that exchange of gunfire continued for some time in the initial stage but searches in the areas including Babhara, Tiken and Dadoora orchards continued till this morning.

“The joint team has ended the operation as militants have managed to escape from the spot,” an official said.
