Doctor allegedly molests woman in Shopian, CMO orders inquiry, FIR lodged

The said doctor has ‘fled from the spot’

Srinagar: A doctor posted at Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Harmain area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, was suspended after he allegedly tried to molest woman.

Official sources said that a woman from Aloora area of Shopian who had visited the PHC for treatment alleged that a doctor on duty tried to molest her.

They said that soon after the incident locals assembled at the spot and subsequently locked the hospital and staged a protest demonstration, demanding strict action against the doctor involved in the shameful act.

However, the doctor, according to the reports, had fled from the hospital after learning that locals have gathered outside the hospital.

In this regard, Chief Medical Officer Shopian Dr Ramesh Malla told a local news agency KNO that soon after the complaint block medical officer and zonal medical officer rushed to the spot to enquire the matter.

He added that three staff members including the accused doctor have been suspended till pending enquiry.

“Committee has been framed who will investigate the matter after which further course of action will be taken,” he said, adding that involved person will face strict action as per law.

Police said that after receiving information that a senior Pharmacist namely Sabzar Ahmad Sofi, a resident of Pahloo Kulgam, posted at PHC Hermain, has molested a woman, a case under FIR No 212/2020 U/S 354A IPC registration against the accused.
