Woman injured in cross LoC firing in Poonch

Srinagar: A woman was on Friday injured after the armies of India and Pakistan exchanged gunfire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch village in Jammu division.

Officials on the Indian side said that on Friday at around 04:45 pm, Pakistan army “violated ceasefire from Nakiyal area and resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling, targeting the area” of Balakote in Mendhar of Poonch district.

“To this, the Indian army retaliated strongly,” officials said.

The firing resulted in serious injuries to a civilian woman identified as Mehnaz Akhter, in her mid-30s, a resident of Panjni Balakote in Poonch.

Earlier in a day, Panic gripped the residents along the Line of Control (LoC), in Bagtore block of Gurez in Kashmir’s Bandipora district, after the armies of India and Pakistan exchanged heavy gunfire.
