Pulwama: A top militant commander Zahid Rashid Bhat alias Zahid Tiger was among two militants killed in a military operation against militants and another was captured alive in Dadoora Kangan area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama on Saturday.
Official sources said that two militants were killed while as one was captured alive during a military operation in Dadoora.
Officials have identified the slain militants as Zahid Rashid Bhat, son of Abdul Rashid Bhat, a resident of Drabgam, Pulwama, top commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba who was a cousin of top Hizb commander Sameer Bhat alias Sameer Tiger and was active from last several years.
The other slain militant was identified as Adnan, a foreigner, officials said, adding that during search operation one militant was captured alive who has been identified as Firdous Ahmad Tak from Doda area of Jammu.
In a statement, police said that “incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of operation. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes.”
Police said that “bodies of the slain militants shall be sent to Handwara for burial after completion of all medico-legal formalities. The nearest family members of the slain militants shall be allowed to participate in the last rites.”
The operation began after a joint team of Police, army’s 50 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
As per the official sources, as the joint teams of armed forces personnel approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them triggering an operation.
Eyewitnesses said that clashes between the armed forces personnel and civilians were also reported in Pulwama’s Murran and Kangan areas.
